WINE TASTING, GRILLED FOOD AND FOOSBALL IN GEORGETOWN

EXPERIENCE INSPIRATION

Our daughter, Bella, was invited to sleep-over at a friend’s house, so we thought it was a perfect catalyst for a date night. After we dropped her off in West Seattle, we decided to check out Georgetown and see what kind of new places are popping up there.

GOOD FOR

Couples and groups of friends and people who appreciate an industrial, artistic neighborhood. The tasting room does allow kids, but I am not sure the experience would be as fun for them, or the parents.

HIGHLIGHTS

Anyone who appreciates hand-forged, raw steel interiors, plane spotting and delicious wine should stop by the Charles Smith wine tasting room in Georgetown.

There is a beautiful 100% steel staircase that leads from the main tasting room to an upstairs lounge area where you can enjoy full glasses of wine and cheese & charcuterie plates while you watch planes land and take off from Boeing field.

The staff is knowledgeable and friendly.

If you go, make sure to check out the co-ed steel bathrooms with cool rocker photography. Charles must be a music lover!

BONUS: For Seattlelites, the up-and-coming Georgetown/SODO wine tasting rooms are a cheaper Lyft ride away than Woodinville. Watch for future posts on Seattle’s urban wine tasting rooms. Surprisingly, once I started researching this topic I realized that they exist all over the city!
To complete a date night after the Charles Smith Wine tasting room, walk around the corner and place your name on the waitlist at the Ciudad Grill (showcasing Middle Eastern flavors) and then wait in its next door bar and play foosball while sipping on perfectly crafted cocktails.

The bar served what looked like amazing roasted chickens, but eating at the restaurant next door is worth the wait. In particular, the charcoal grilled food is so full of flavor that you will feel like you’ve died and gone to heaven. Two of our favorite dishes were shrimp, grilled in the shell to maintain sweetness, and perfectly crispy vegetables. The meats are sold by the ounce, so unlike most restaurants that serve more food than you can eat, you can order just what you think you can eat, which makes the food very affordable. Our amazingly delicious dinner for two, with cocktails, was only $50!

BONUS: There is a large patio between the bar and grill that looks perfect for sunny Seattle days and kids are welcome!

Our nightcap activity included a stroll through Georgetown’s 2nd Saturday artwalk. We watched artists blow beautiful glass pieces and had mind-blowing rum cake at a bakery located in the Georgetown Trailer Park Mall.

I hope this post inspires you to venture to the South side of Seattle sometime soon.

If You Go

  • ABILITY TO UNPLUG: Low, you are in the City so you must work harder to engage the people with whom you decided to share your experience.
  • If you are more in the mood for mind-blowing fried chicken in a dive bar, check out Sisters and Brothers Tennessee hot chicken in the building in front of the Charles Smith tasting room.
