Our daughter Bella was at sleep-away camp, so Tim and I planned our own summertime adventure for a week in Oregon (additional articles to come). We ended with a one night stay at this beautiful property.

HIGHLIGHTS

It's hard to believe that the Carson Ridge Luxury Cabins property is only 3 acres, because it feels like 50 acres when you stroll through the meadow trails while testing out the lovely sitting areas (hammocks, benches, adirondack chairs) that owners Richard and Theresa have placed in the garden. If you visit during late summer, you can pick ripe, wild blackberries while you quietly observe the resident wild bunnies and deer. The private cabins are so nicely appointed with luxurious bedding, fireplaces, robes, soaking tubs, porch swings and a small refrigerator.

If you have time , try and stay at least two nights so you have ample time to explore the nearby charming river town of Hood Canal with microbreweries and river sports, and Columbia Valley wineries in addition to the Cabin property. The owners are very knowledgeable and have created an exhaustive list of 101 Things To Do including recommended wineries. Definitely check this list in advance to plan your trip.

Regarding breakfast, don't even think twice about eating off-property unless you have an early morning excursion, because Richard and Theresa create amazing culinary delights to serve each morning. Other good things to know about the Carson Cabins is that they sell local bottles of wine and have a lending library of DVD's in the office to enjoy back in your cabin. The friendly, attentive owners are also very much in the know about nearby wineries and can point you in the right direction for tasting rooms.

IF YOU GO

ABILITY TO UNPLUG RATING: low. Cellular and data are not great, but the WIFI is good. In fact, Tim had a China-based conference call on the front porch of our cabin.
If you want to head back to your cabin after a long day of adventure and push the easy button, eat a delicious dinner at the Backwoods Brewing Company (located right across the street). If you are lucky, they will have a local band playing live music on the back patio stage.
Antique lovers should check out the area's antique stores for unique treasures. There are a few just West of the cabins, where one could enjoy a quick trip.
